    Just gotta love this one…

Courtesy of Don Lawyer. He’s got everything else listed he might as well get this one too. Well, after it expires Don!

South Dakota town for sale for $399K…The entire town of Swett, South Dakota, is officially on the market at a list price of $399,000. The buyer who plunks down that chunk of change will get a three-bedroom, one-bath house, a bar, a tire shop, and three trailer homes on 6.16 acres. Swett is known as a popular place for pheasant hunting, according to its Coldwell Banker listing page, Stacie Montgomery, listing agent.

My favorite description of the property…a 1990 Volvo semi that is currently used to haul trailers stays with the purchase .

    NATIONAL GINGERSNAP DAY

My Grandma made these and they were really great! I’ve only tasted a few after that were as good.

Celebrate today, National Gingersnap Day, by enjoying this sweet and savory treat. Gingersnaps are cookies typically made from molasses, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and brown sugar.  They are a combination of sweet and spicy and have long been enjoyed by many. Gingersnaps are a healthier alternative to other cookies, being that they are generally low in calories and have many benefits.  The ginger that is in these cookies has anti-inflammatory properties, is known to help treat nausea and fight heart disease and other illnesses.

    Cook Children’s in the community

Each year, the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial brings tourists, golf fanatics, and some of the world’s best professional golfers to Fort Worth during the week before Memorial Day. Louis Oosthuizen, a South African born PGA golfer, was in town to play in the tournament. While staying at a nearby hotel with his family, Louis’ 2-year-old daughter, Sophia, got her hand stuck in the hinges of the bathroom door and nearly lost a finger. Louis immediately rushed Sophia to Cook Children’s where she underwent surgery to repair the injury. “If I’m in doubt ever to have any surgery or something for my kids, I’ll fly in to see them,” Oosthuizen said. “The way they handled it, the way they spoke to us and treated the kids — it was amazing to us. I didn’t even know there were hospitals like that,” said Louis. To read the full article, visit the PGA Tour website.

Also taking place during the week of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial was the 25th Annual Bedpan Open. PGA golfers participating in the tournament took time to visit with patients and their families at the medical center and play putt putt golf on a course designed by our Child Life Specialists in our atrium! This year’s golfers were Bo Van Pelt, Mark Wilson, Sean O’Hair and Dustin Johnson. View pictures from the day here!

While in Fort Worth, Dustin Johnson not only visited our patients at Cook Children’s but he also pledged to donate $500 for each birdie he made during the local tournament. He was true to his word and generously donated $7,000 to Cook Children’s to cover his 14 birdies! “I want to help support kids in any way I can,” Dustin said. “They do such a great job at Cook Children’s Medical Center. It’s a wonderful facility. I was really glad to get to go there and visit with some of the kids.” We are so thankful for Dustin and all the golfers that have a heart for our patients.

    Gotta be good for ya!

Today is National Chocolate Eclair Day.  The word “eclair” comes from the French word, meaning “flash of lightning”.   The connection between this and the French pastry remains unclear.

Long Johns are marketed under the name eclairs in some parts of the United States.  The two are not quite identical.  Long Johns are made with donut pastry and typically filled with a vanilla pudding or custard.

    A tradition of Scouting…

A tradition of Scouting is the respectful and reverent retirement of American flags that have been well used.  A story of one retirement can be viewed here.  The flag being retired by Troop 453 from Waco was brought from Afghanistan by an Eagle Scout from the troop serving there.  He is holding the field of the flag in the second photo.  Another inspirational retirement will be held on Flag Day, June 14.  Over 200 American flags will be retired by Scouts and Scouters.  Click here to see this flyer for more details.

Ten fascinating facts on the 70th anniversary of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, about 150,000 troops stormed the beaches of France in the epic D-Day invasion that proved pivotal to the Allied war effort. But how did the idea originate and how did the Allies pull off such a huge task?

The numbers involved in the Normandy landings are still staggering today, and unlikely to be seen again in a modern age of combat. Here are a few of the numbers, and some fascinating facts about this historic event.

In honor of National Doughnut Day…

Whether it’s powdered, filled or a hot Original Glazed®, stop in for a free doughnut from Krispy Kreme.

Gotta love this…the offer is accepted in all the US including Puerto Rico but excludes Connecticut. Sorry northern Dudes and Dudettes.
