  A strong message… 

  was heard last night at the Act Like Men Conference in Fort Worth. And, I might add, this is not just to men but the body of Christ, His Church. The Scripture used is from 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 where Paul says…Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

  I added several other Scriptures to this message, Romans 13:11-14 and Luke 21:34-36. You will notice a theme that is coming forth in these last days, wake up, get right with God, be alert and PRAY! We started a prayer and study group at our office and prayer has been the main ingredient and getting back to the foundational value of prayer which is simply communing with God as Jesus taught is exemplified in John chapter 17!

  A special thank you 

  This is one of my favorite pictures, a greeting card sent from my Uncle Vernon in WWII to his wife and my Aunt Estella. I really miss his insight and wisdom, especially as he stepped in and took the place of being a Dad to me. They didn’t have any kids of their own and Mom said that after helping raise me in those early years they decided that they for sure would never have any.

  Good article from Texas Association of Realtor’s for Consumers 

  Hey, Internet, why are you such a tease?

  I admit it … I got sucked in.

  I was poking around on Zillow when a photo of a beautiful bathroom caught my attention. A little tag at the top said, “Estimate: $15,500.”

  Wow! I was instantly transported to daydream mode, imagining this stunning bathroom in my home.

  Then, like a needle scratching across a record, a user comment below the photo jerked me back to reality. “Lots o’ luck,” said this person, identifying him or herself as a remodeling professional. The remodeler projected that the cost was off by at least 100%. Another commenter pegged the price at about $60,000.

  Daydream over.

  I should’ve known better. Zillow is an interesting website. But I know their “zestimates” for home values are all over the place, often wrong by 20% or more. I’ve seen them designate the University of Texas as a nearby neighborhood to Lakeway. (Hey, it’s only about a seven-hour walk!)

  Still, for a second there, I thought I could update my 1960s-era bathroom into a modern dream bathroom for a quarter of the real cost.

  In the future, if I want to know what a bathroom remodel will set me back, I’ll ask a contractor. Just like when I’m ready to sell my home and want to know what it’s worth—or I’m looking to buy and need to know if one neighborhood is near another—I’ll contact an expert who really knows what’s going on … I’ll talk to a Texas REALTOR®.

  A little story with a huge truth 

  This was in an article I read regarding scouting. It deals with scouts but sure applies to my life and business as well. Yep, even at 61 there are foundational truths that never grow old.

  In sales, no matter how good your cause is (or no matter how cute you are in your little Scout uniform) people don’t owe you anything. They have to have a reason to want your product or “service.” Most people who donated or bought popcorn told the kids that they wanted to support the Scouts because they themselves or their children had been Scouts. My guess is that they knew the good works that Scouting does for kids and it made them feel good to make a small investment in that.
  I agree with this theory. Even if the Scout doesn’t go into sales as a career, he’ll still hear “no” a lot in life. But he’ll have the strength to keep his chin up and keep pressing for that “yes.”

  How about it’s application to our lives, whether we are in sales or not.

  New BSA site up and running… 

  Welcome to the Longhorn Council’s brand new website. Per JOHN COYLE, SCOUT EXECUTIVE and the author of this article, “The majority of the site is functional right now and I think you’ll find what is functional is much more responsive and intuitive than our former site. I also think you will also see that it is easier to find what you are looking for.”

  I know they have been working hard to make changes to the site and institute a much better social media campaign and we are seeing the fruits of their labors!

  Handing out some fishing rods…and love! 

  So looking forward to being at Cook Children’s Hospital today to hand out 50 fishing rods to the kids! This is the 5th year for our Organization to do this and we want to thank one of our partner sponsors, Providence Title for donating the rods.

  Last year a lady came up to meet me with her son and I noticed he had a fishing rod in his hand and ready to fish in the kids tournament. His Mom told me they had been at Cooks Children’s last year and he was one of the kids that wanted a fishing rod. Now I say that is what this organization is all about and brings a very big smile to my heart! My headline stated handing out love…but probably not near as much as we get back!

  Acts 20:35 “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’“

  From Ft Worth go north on I35, exit US 287 north, exit W. Bonds Ranch Rd. then left (west) to Bus. 287, turn right on Bus. 287 (north) then left (west) on E. Peden Rd. approx. 6 miles to marina.

  Cara Young Fish For Life update 

  Check out just a few of the silent auction items we will have for you to bid on this Sunday. My RE/MAX family donated a family game and fun basket and, if there are games or items you already have those could be used for great Christmas gifts! My favorite and one I’ll for sure be bidding on is the food and cooking basket from RE/MAX Associates as well. We also have a really nice basket donated by our friends at Babe’s Chicken…yum. Along with these bid items I’ll be bringing two Dallas Stars tickets valued at $216.00, two $50.00 gift cards to one of my favs…Mac’s Bar and Grill, Apple store gift card and much much more.   Happy Founders Day Burleson TX 

  Founded on this day, October 10th 1881, Burleson began when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad planned a railroad from Fort Worth to Hillsboro in 1881 and established a depot on the townsite. In it’s first fifty years Burleson was a stable community organized around agriculture and livestock raising. By 1890 it had a population of 200, grocers, druggists, a general store, and several cotton gin-gristmills. Ten years later the community had a newspaper, the Burleson Banner, and an artesian well and waterworks that supplied water to area homes and businesses. In 1899 Burleson shipped 2,000 bales of cotton, eighty cars of wheat and oats, and thirty cars of cottonseed. (courtesy of The Texas State Historical Association)

  The 22nd annual Founders Day, is slated for Saturday, Oct. 11, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in Old Town Burleson (124 W. Ellison

  Sonny is a huge supporter of Cook Children’s Hospital and the Cara Young Fish for Life, a 510(c)3 Foundation and we appreciate his service to the community and our kids. Speaking of Burleson TX, we also have a Cook Children’s Pediatrics as well!
