    Another RE/MAX Aniversary

When I started Real Estate in 1989 it was my goal to be at RE/MAX within 5 years. I made that decision because of the RE/MAX business plan and surrounding myself with some of the best agents in the business. Just about hit my goal right on the button because on this day, March 29th, 1995 I joined a great company and have been blessed by that decision ever since.

No one ever hears me say that you should leave this company or that one to come here, or for that matter go anywhere. Instead I will share with other folks why I am at RE/MAX and also point out other companies benefits and what they have to offer. Most real estate companies offer good training, etc. and each agent must decide for themselves after interviewing which fits them best. Kinda of reminds me of sellers interviewing agents!
    Have a great Tuesday!

Welcome Spring, a Time of Renewal…

And of course in fine Texas tradition it is greeted with 40 deg. temp that feels 34 deg! Oh well, at least it’s here. Did You Know: 2016 will bring the earliest arrival of spring of our lifetime (thus far!) in the Northern Hemisphere.

Seasons  are examples of God’s perfect order in the world. They represent the balanced cycle of creation which is sustained by God and through which his provision and mercy are made known.

Hosea 6:3 Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the LORD.
    His going forth is established as the morning;
He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

    Isaiah 43:18,19

    Romans 12:1,2

    Philippians 3:10-14

    Ephesians 4:22-24

    Colossians 3:8-11

    Socialism Debate by: Kirby Anderson

The presidential candidacy of Bernie Sanders has created an interesting debate about Democratic socialism. One of the most interesting has been the back and forth on Garry Kasparov’s Facebook page. He is a former Soviet citizen and World Chess Champion. He is now a political activist dedicated to setting the record straight about Russia and communism.

Some of the supporters of the Bernie Sanders argued that socialism would be a good thing for America. Garry Kasparov would have none of it. He said: “I’m enjoying the irony of American Sanders supporters lecturing me, a former Soviet citizen, on the glories of Socialism and what it really means!” He added that: “Socialism sounds great in speech sound bites and on Facebook, but please keep it there. In practice, it corrodes not only the economy but the human spirit itself, and the ambition and achievement that made modern capitalism possible and brought billions of people out of poverty.”

He also explained: “Talking about Socialism is a huge luxury, a luxury that was paid for by the successes of capitalism. Income inequality is a huge problem, absolutely. But the idea that the solution is more government, more regulation, more debt, and less risk is dangerously absurd.”
In a later post, one of the Bernie Sanders supporters brought up the Scandinavian countries. Kasparov responded that they were successful only because some socialistic elements were implemented after the capitalist economy succeeded and warned that the current system might choke the process that made the country wealthy.

The Bernie Sanders supporters of Democratic socialism will continue to have a tough time with Garry Kasparov because (1) he has lived in a socialist state and (2) has an IQ over 185.

    Happy Birthday Vivaldi

Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice on March 4th, 1678. Though ordained a priest in 1703, according to his own account, within a year of being ordained Vivaldi no longer wished to celebrate mass because of physical complaints (“tightness of the chest”) which pointed to angina pectoris, asthmatic bronchitis, or a nervous disorder. It is also possible that Vivaldi was simulating illness – there is a story that he sometimes left the altar in order to quickly jot down a musical idea in the sacristy…. In any event he had become a priest against his own will, perhaps because in his day training for the priesthood was often the only possible way for a poor family to obtain free schooling. Vivaldi died on July 28th 1741.

My favorite: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. This concerto is unmistakably Antonio Vivaldi’s most famous work.  Having composed 500 different concertos, one of them is bound to be a hit, right?  Outside of the concert hall, you’ve heard movements of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in movies like Tin Cup, Spy Game, A View to Kill, What Lies Beneath, White Chicks, Saved!, Pacific Heights, and The Other Sister just to name a few.

    Listen to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons

    Regarding the Cara Young Charity

    fish4life_medalion

The Cara Young Fish for Life began in 2010 as a fishing tournament to help raise funds for Cook Children’s and Cystic Fibrosis in honor and memory of Cara Young, an amazing young lady who touched many lives. At the young age of 23, Cara lost her battle with cystic fibrosis.

Cara spent many weeks at Cook Children’s during her short life and the care she received was amazing. In order to give something back to the medical center we decided to establish an annual bass fishing tournament. This year, in addition to the fishing tournament there will be a separate event of catered food, a silent auction/wine pull and great music to be held on August 10th, 2016 at the Arlington Board of Realtors.

We would like to ask if you would make a donation to the Cara Young Fish For Life Tournaments, dinner and silent auction events, a  501 (c)(3) public charity. Over 90% of all monies we have received goes directly back to Cook Children’s and the “Cara Cards”. (You may click on the links to be taken to more information)

The bass tournament date is set for September 18th. The weigh-in, kids’ tournament and other festivities will be held at Cabela’s, Fort Worth store location.

Thank you for your consideration. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions and please share this info with your sphere of influence!

    Sincerely,

    Steve Young                             Cowgirl

    Re. The Supreme Court Vacancy

Very good article from Kirby Anderson with Point of View

Now that the U.S. Senate is back in session we are going to hear even more noise about the urgent need for senators to confirm a nominee to the Supreme Court to replace Justice Antonin Scalia. Senator Chuck Schumer has been on talk shows accusing the Senate leadership of obstructionism. He even predicted that “this kind of obstructionism isn’t going to last.” Some critics have pointed to the hypocrisy of his statements. After all, back in July 2007 Senator Schumer promised to block any Supreme Court nominee put forward by President George W. Bush. He rallied his fellow Democrats saying: “that we should not confirm any Bush nominee to the Supreme Court except in extraordinary circumstances.”

The argument for waiting until the next election could also be summarized with one name: Judge Robert Bork. In 1987, the Democratic Party leadership brought out the rhetorical heavy artillery and vilified a qualified nominee to the Supreme Court. The lies and character assassination shocked political observers of both parties. Confirming another liberal justice will merely guarantee a reliable liberal vote. The Wall Street Journal reminds us that: “Not since Byron White retired has any Democratic appointee broken with the liberal lockstep on issues that truly matter to the left.” By contrast, many Republican appointees like “Harry Blackmun, John Paul Stevens, David Souter, Sandra Day O’Connor, Anthony Kennedy and John Roberts all broke with conservative political preferences on major legal issues.” From this statistical comparison, it is easy to see which side apparently makes up its mind before the high court even hears oral arguments.

These are just a few reasons why the U.S. Senate need not be in any rush to confirm someone to the Supreme Court.POV
