Cook Children’s Hospital new program helps feed families!
When a visit to the Emergency Department ends up being an overnight stay at Cook Children’s Medical Center, most parents are not thinking about feeding themselves. While the doctors and nurses take care of the sick or injured child, our staff now has a way to take care of family members as well.
Through the Parent Pantry, families are presented with a bag of substantial food – microwavable meals, cereal bars and snacks. Social worker, Jan Boland, says “as an employee, these bags help us do our job better. This is a great new service that we now can offer some of our families.” The bags are especially helpful for families who find themselves in the Emergency Department overnight, who are here for long stays or who live far away. Nothing about the bags is intrusive, and everything provided in the bags is donated.
