  Protect Water Pipes During Hard Freeze 

  A hard freeze is predicted for the DFW Area this week that could result in water pipes freezing. United Carpet Cleaning Systems offers these tips to help our customers prevent problems with water pipes.

   

  1. Disconnect and drain all outside hoses. Shut off all irrigation systems and allow them to drain.

  2. Wrap exposed outside water pipes with materials that insulate against the cold. Hardware and building supply companies sell a variety of products. Newspapers or rags wrapped in plastic will also work for outside faucets.

  3. Know the location of the main water shut off valve to your house and company and how to use it. If a pipe bursts anywhere, this valve can be used to turn off the water.

  4. Insulate pipes in unheated areas such as crawl spaces, attics or a garage or warehouses.

  5. Open cupboard doors in the kitchen and bathroom so warm air can reach water pipes located in outside walls.

  6. Commercial Buildings – make sure and leave heaters on so that overhead Fire Sprinklers do not freeze.

   

  Even if you take these precautions, pipes might still freeze. Make sure you have the name and number of a licensed plumber before an emergency, we are happy to refer one if needed.

  Tarrant County Bond program 

  The Tarrant County HFC Bond Program is designed to help qualified home buyers purchase a home by providing a fixed-rate loan with down payment and closing cost assistance. The grant does not have to be paid back. Loans under this program will be made on a first-come first-serve basis to qualified buyers. 

  Two Main Benefits to the Homebuyer:

  ⇒ 5.05% fixed mortgage rate.

  ⇒ 3.00% down payment and closing cost assistance grant. For example, on a $100,000 loan amount, home buyers will receive $3,000 in assistance.

  As Buyers Respond to Tax Credit… 

  Existing home sales rose again in November '09 7.4% according to the National Association of Realtors. Looks like the extension was a very good thing to do. I believe we will also see a surge after first of year. Continued Low interest rates and home prices, the TAX credits & lets don't forget living in the State of TEXAS makes for a wonderful time to sell and or buy a home or property.

  Cook hospital visits 

  Heard on the news this morning that some of the Dallas Cowboys football team came to visit at Cook Children's in Fort Worth and the comment from several players was they know it did the kids good but the good it did the players was probably even greater. 

  Grandma always said if you think you've got it bad or your having a pity party, you know, the party where no one shows up but you, then look around and you'll usually find someone or others in a whole lot worse condition. 

  Such it is, especially this time of year, with the kids that are ill, have diseases and many fighting for their very life. Couple that with the strain and stress on the parents and it makes our little problems seem fairly small or at least more manageable. Say a little prayer for these families please, for you see, I know what they are experiencing.

  HUD has recently come out with new short sale guidelines and, well, fairly confusing, but then if it wasn't wouldn't we be shocked! think big work small

  Christmas time 

  This is Christmas week, and I thought it might be worthwhile to spend a moment to reflect on the words to the hymn, "O Little Town of Bethlehem." It was written in 1867 by Phillips Brooks (an Episcopal pastor from Philadelphia). He had been in Israel two years earlier and had celebrated Christmas in Bethlehem. He wrote this song to reflect on what the night of the birth of Jesus might have been like.
   
  O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by. Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
   
  While the streets of our cities are quiet on Christmas day, most likely that day was just like any other day for the people in Bethlehem. But as evening came, the town grew quiet and something remarkable took place.
   
  In the second verse the hymn says, "While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love." This is just like today. Our world goes about its business, usually oblivious to the spiritual realities around it.
   
  Jesus came into the world quietly. Yes, there was the angelic announcement to the shepherds, but most other people were unaware of the fact that the most significant event in history was taking place. God became a man. But he was born in a stable and laid in a feeding trough. There was no pomp or circumstance as you would expect of a King.
   
  Jesus came not only to live among us but to ultimately die for our sins. He took upon Himself the sins of the world (your sins and my sins) and paid the ultimate penalty that we deserved to pay that we might have everlasting life.
   
  During this Christmas week, I hope you will stop long enough to consider what happened in that little town of Bethlehem. But even more so, I hope you will think about what Jesus did for us at Calvary.
